The New Front Porch
Early on, our daughter, Ellie said that we should put a New Orleans style front porch on the house - low to the ground and with no railing, as a way to make the house more welcoming. So we did ;-)
When we bought the house, there was an enclosed side porch that was essentially one long vestibule. You went in the front door, you walked down an empty corridor for about 10 feet and then unlocked the real front door. We decided to keep the general profile from the outside, but convert the space into real inside space so that when you entered the building you were inside.

Step 1 - Remove the old porch:
And then build a new one:
And here it is - completed except for trim:

While this is a cleaner look on the outside, the difference on the inside is dramatic.
I don't have a photo of what the entryway looked like before, but as you can see in the photos below, we've blown away the old wall and now as you enter the house, you really are inside immediately.
