There are some of the original studs in the house - but we've replaced or added quite a few. For months the house was a forest of studs, but not any more. When they plastered the walls, conceptual spaces turned into actual spaces, and for the most part, it has turned out as we had expected. The surprises have been minor - like the ceilings looking much higher or the proportions of a room seeming less rectangular and more square. Some walls have emerged as more prominent than expected, but the sight-lines are as expected, and we are very pleased with the way it has turned out.
Here is a short video of the first floor of the house in its "stud" phase:
As you come in the house, the first thing you see is the dining room - before and after shots follow:
Once inside (in front of the stairway), you see both the kitchen on the left and the dining room on the right:
The view when you are in the dining room looking back at the entryway:
And the view from the dining room towards the front of the house:
You can see a bit of the new floor in the last photo above - maple...
The kitchen (viewed from half way up the stairs):
The stove will be to the right of the smaller window, and the peninsula with the sink will come out from the wall about where the orange cone is.
The changes upstairs are equally popping, but the spaces are smaller and it is harder to capture the changes in photos, but here are two samples: the view from the front bedroom towards the back of the house, and one view of the master bedroom at the back of the house:
So we have rooms now. The next step is floors - we are putting in maple floors which should lighten up the spaces. Then comes paint on the walls, and then we can install counters, vanities, appliances, and plumbing fixtures.
It is now the end of July and we are still hoping to move in the first week of September.
Wish us luck!
